He went on to work as a musician in numerous capacities in New York City, witnessing a cultural revolution outside the safety of the four-room apartment he shared with his mother and father on 116th Street in East Harlem.

Mike left New York City to live and work in London, a move that resulted in an opportunity to tour Europe and Australia when selected for lead guitarist with the Shakin' Stevens Band. After a brief return three years later to New York City, Mike was offered a gig in Austin, Texas, 'The Live Music Capital of the World', where he then made his new home.
